Medical gloves are of two major types; surgical gloves and exam gloves. Both of these gloves have a specific function. Different materials are used for the manufacturing of medical gloves such as nitrile, latex or vinyl.
Medical gloves are used by doctors, nurses, lab technicians, pharmacists, rescue workers, forensics officers and others. Let us look at different types of medical examination gloves:
- Latex Examination gloves:
These gloves are made from natural rubber. Latex gloves offer great protection against harmful pathogens and other kinds of biohazards in the medical environment. Latex gloves are also quite flexible and provide higher degree of protection. Therefore, they are ideal to be used in sensitive cases.
Latex gloves are also very comfortable to wear. When compared to other types of gloves, latex gloves are better in strength and elasticity. There are also more affordable.
- Nitrile Examination gloves:
Nitrile gloves are made of a synthetic polymer. The synthetic rubber is non-latex and does not have any proteins. People are sensitive to Latex are more likely to use these kind of gloves. Nitrile gloves provide good protection against oil, grease and other non-organic solvents. They are less elastic in nature and also a bit expensive.
- Vinyl Examination gloves:
Vinyl gloves are made from PVC (PolyVinyl Chloride). These gloves also have great resistance against chemicals and non-organic solvents. Vinyl gloves are preferred because of the excellent and comfortable feel they provide to the user. They have relatively low price and are best suited for critical environments.
